The New WordPress v3.6

Version 3.6

Hello, I hope this post finds you well.
As a WordPress fan I am salivating over the release of the new WordPress v3.6! It is going to be the best version yet and they have made adjustments that are both user-friendly and feature-rich. It's not that they made a ton of changes but the few they have made are sure to be a hit. I am so exited!

The new interface is noticeable right away. Better contrast, fonts and arrangement make it easier to read and navigate. A new "ribbon" available at the top of the Post editor makes it easy to select a "post-type" which is becoming a standard feature in new versions of WordPress. There is a new emphasis on expanding the ability to publish posts within a particular and suitable format. With a specific "post-type" WordPress will automatically format the new post for the type of post you are creating.

For example, if you want to embed a video, the new "ribbon" has a selection for that. When selected, WordPress opens an embed box right above your post for you to embed the video code. This is validation that WordPress and the web in general is moving ahead towards a more HTML5 way of delivering content (especially media). Obligatory and proprietary plugins and add-ons like Flash are done with the new open-source delivery system in place now. Funny I should mention that because I just updated my Flash plugin twice (4-times in a month or so) and it has been crashing repeatedly!!

They also built in an automatic "Auto Save" feature that I am looking forward to very much. We have all experienced a loss of work due to sudden lock-ups , connection loss, automatic log-outs, server issues, plugin conflicts, cache issues etc that leave you trembling over whether or not your edits are still there when you connect again.

Problem solved with the new version of WordPress. It automatically saves your edits as you go along and offers you several (thats right, several) versions when you are re-connected. A life and time saver for Blogs and info sites like mine.

Before your database kept the revisions for auto save, now the browser has been included a s redundancy to further protect your work. together, the database and browser give us the safety we needed so desperately. We will be able to access older versions of our posts as well with the new revisions window, they thought of everything in this one.

Next is the new Menu or navigation settings and options window. they changed it and made it easier to control your menus options and locations. The options have been simplified to offer better selection of the most common menu items. For those new to WordPress in general, this change will definitely help out. I get a lot of questions from beginners about the menu options on various themes.

Overall, I am very exited and anxious to get the new version installed and running. Theme developers will have to step it up once again to accommodate the new features and power that have been unleashed in WordPress 3.6. Not all themes support the new features and I am not currently sure if the server-side has any compliance to do. Currently Apache and PHP 5 are what is needed to run WordPress on a server. Any ideas or info on that?
