WordPress Responsive Theme Custom Home-Style Page Template

Do you use the Responsive Theme from CyberChimps? Do you want to display the Home Widgets 1, 2 and 3 and their respective content on another page of your website or Blog? Well if you do I have a custom Responsive Theme Home Page template for you!

Its called the "MVM Home-Style Full" page  template. It displays the default home widgets that are on the front page of the Responsive Theme and whatever is in them. This is very useful for advertising the content in your home widgets on multiple pages, any page or multiple pages.

I constructed this template for a specific purpose and realized that it has many applications for this theme. The page template is still "responsive" so it will adjust as the other files in your responsive site or blog and it is full width with no sidebars. 

Again, it displays whatever you have in the home widgets already. It does not allow you to separately add content to the widget sections on the page the template is used on. To edit the content, go to your widget area and edit the home widgets as usual. Great for advertising the same content you have on the home page throughout your site!

The package comes with the template file customized by yours truly, instructions and screen shots in a convenient zip file for download and extraction. Load the files to your server as instructed and viola, you are ready to use the Home-Style Full page template on any page or post! Just select the template while in the page or post editor on the right under "templates", you'll see the Home-Style Full template in the selection, apply it and save yoour page, done!

Hey folks, I hope all is well with you and yours. This is just a quick post to let everyone know that I finally had a chance to open up the Zazzle store I have been discussing for the past year. I have been so busy with training, tutorials and support for the Responsive Theme and others that I couldn't get to it before.

As you may or may not know, maintaining a website cost money, maintaining an information site such as mine costs more money and a wealth of time and effort.

Should you use Google AdWords or AdSense?

I get a lot of questions about whether to use Google Adsense or Google AdWords on a Website or Blog so I decided to put out a short post on the topic. It is sort of a personal need or preference for me and my focus is on budget.

The first thing to know is that Google AdWords is a paid promotion service. You pay for clicks on your ads that are placed in high ranking with Google. AdSense is an affiliate program whereby the site owner is paid to market goods and services through ads on their site.

Both programs are free to sign up to but AdWords will bill you accordingly when your ad clicks reach a certain amount. If you have a product site that does a lot of retail or services, AdWords is probably good for you in terms of revenue vs advertising costs.

Developing Websites for New vs Old Web Browsers:

I remember the old days when I was an infant in web design and development. The coding we had to do to satisfy the different browsers was a hassle. Back then, browsers weren't helping developers, we just had to comply and go along with the challenge of attempting to satisfy everybody. Today features are more universal within the major competing browsers so cross-coding is not an issue as much.

Other factors are impacting the web and browsers like the handling of media with HTML5 and WebM and all the major browsers are trying to be compliant to the new standards or get left behind. Also "responsive web design is here to stay with multiple devices delivering content.

A developer must be aware of these dynamics in their design standards at all times now. Browsers are available for all of these different devices and being able to know what your design will look like on a particular device is just standard practice as it was back in the day when testing a page out in different web browsers.

MVM WP Responsive Theme Tips

Hello, this is Allan, I hope this post finds you well!

Once you have WordPress installed and have activated your "Responsive Theme" from ThemeID, what do you do next? Where do you start?

Here are some Responsive Theme Quick Start tips to get you up and running!

1. Log-In to your WP Dashboard and go to “Settings” then “General Settings”

Here is where you can verify your sites information such as your sites Title, Tagline, URL and Email address. Leave Member and New User as default for now and set your Time Zone and Date Formats. Make sure these are all correct and to your liking and save the changes if any.

2. Next click on the “Writing Settings” under Settings

These are usually good with the default settings for now unless you want to immediately start posting via email and updating posts services? Be sure to always save changes.

3. Next go to the “Reading Settings” under Settings

Here you change how your Front Page looks (either as a static page or blog page etc) and your Posts Settings (how many to display etc) and whether you want search engines to index your site or not. Be sure to always save changes.

4. Now go to the “Discussion Settings” under Settings

Leave everything as it is from default and add a checkmark next to “Before a comment appears”. You want to approve every comment posted to your site! Select “Gravatar Logo” at the bottom and save changes.

5. Next is the “Media Settings” under Settings

Leave everything as it is by default for now.

6. The last is the “Permalink Settings” under Settings

On the left select “Posts Name” under Common Settings and save changes.

7. Now go to the “Users” tab under Dashboard

To protect your site from hackers, change your user name from “admin” to something unique. Create your own username. Verify your email address and create a new password if you want. Experts recommend changing admin user name and creating a “strong” password at installation to help protect your website.

You can also assign new users and their settings here as well. Be careful not to allow everyone access to your site. Members should be screened and given only the authority you want them to have. Be sure to always save changes

Now you are ready to start enjoying the Responsive Theme and modifying its contents and templates. Check out my Blog on the
